Injection Moulding in Surat Meets Onam Creativity: From Plastic Runners to Pookalam

Onam is a festival of joy, prosperity, togetherness and new beginnings. Celebrated as Kerala's harvest festival, Onam is associated with the legendary King Mahabali and the celebration of abundance and prosperity. One of its most recognisable traditions is the Pookalam—a colourful arrangement traditionally created on floors using flowers.

This year, we decided to celebrate the spirit of Onam in our own way.

Instead of flowers, we looked towards something much closer to our everyday work.

And that is how an idea was born:

For those familiar with injection moulding, a runner is a familiar part of the moulding process. It is something we see every day while manufacturing precision plastic components.

Usually, we see it in the context of production.

This Onam, we decided to see it differently.

Using runners in white, orange and ivory, our team carefully arranged them to create a colourful Pookalam inspired by the traditional floral designs associated with the festival.

The result was something unexpected—a Pookalam created not with petals, but with a material from our own manufacturing environment.

This Onam, our runners took a different route.
